In solarplate etching an image is transferred to a polymer coated plate using sunlight or an artificial source of UV light. The plate is washed with water and the polymer is hardened by additional light exposure leaving the image on the plate ready to be inked and printed as an intaglio or relief print. This technique allows an etching to be made without the use of toxic chemicals.
