Previously, the circle collages assembled on a black monotype background were in stark contrast with the background. I blogged about that group in “BLACK.”
Now, I wanted something different, something lighter. I will start with a square on the rectangular paper. Something simple. As always, I looked through my stash of the “unloved”, those not quite ready for prime time, prints. I found large monotype prints which could be cut up and, in some cases, pieced together. They are centered or placed at an angle on the white background.
Pieces of mesh are inked and printed, either under or on top of the monotype squares. So, too, are strings and pieces of cord.
The stencil shapes are all cut from suminagashi marbled paper, my favorite marbling technique. They float or fly (you decide) across the entire surface but look closely. There is a particular direction of movement. Follow, follow, follow. The linework amplifies the movement but at the same time holds it all together.
Here are the finished collages #1432, #1433, #1434 and #1435

Layer by layer, piece by piece, or as Lt. Columbo (Peter Falk) used to say, “Just one more thing.” That is what building a collage is all about.
